Record Breaking Paraglider flight wraps up in Newfoundland, for beauty--not distance.
August 30th, 2009 - Channel-Basques, NF
- Benjamin Jordan is following his dreams and breaking a world record while flying a powered paraglider 10,000 km across Canada to raise money to send kids to camp.
Poor weather in the Maritime region has caused the record breaking team to come up 1,000 km short on the Northeast coast of Cape Bretton Island. While Jordan was prepared to fly the Cabot Strait crossing without a support vessel, gale-force winds mixed with heavy rain kept the glider grounded over a five day wait.
Now, Jordan and team are keeping on with the original plan, completing the Newfoundland stretch of their journey solely for the purposes of fund raising and documenting the province's unique natural beauty.
While most summer camps have wrapped up for the season, ABOVE+BEYOND looks forward to completing their inspiring journey with a YMCA camp just outside of St. John's in the next week, where they will conclude with their final presentation and aerial formation. Formation photographs from schools and camps across Canada are being featured in a book and sold to benefit the charities of each province.
ABOVE+BEYOND has teamed up with the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign in Newfoundland to ensure that kids all over the province get to experience the wonder of summer camp, regardless of their family's financial state.
